The Urban League of Greater Hartford's Center for Economic Enrichment provides Pre-Purchase counseling services to the general public by certified housing counselors. Clients are encouraged to call and schedule a one on one counseling session with one of our housing counselors. Counseling sessions focus on the financial preparedness and mortgage readiness of the client.

During the counseling session, the Housing Counselor works with the client to formulate a detailed budget. The budget will assist the client in determining their financial strength and opportunities for improvement, which include evaluation of his or her situation and identifying potential lending barriers.

The Urban League offers CHFA'S (Connecticut Housing Finance Authority) Home buyer Education Classes. Home buyers have the option of taking one 8 hour class or one 3 hour class.

The 8 hour class focuses on:

  1. Managing your Money
  2. Understanding Credit
  3. Getting a Mortgage
  4. Shopping for a Home
  5. Keeping your Home and Managing your Finances

The 3 hour class focuses on:

  1. Understanding Mortgage Terms & the Loan Process
  2. Budgeting
  3. Keeping your home and Managing Your Finances.

This class is for individuals that have a CHFA loan/loan registration number ONLY. If you have a registration number, please click on the link below to register for class.
