HYP is a substance abuse program for adolescents aged 10-17, that is exceptionally successful by using a 3 pronged approach.  Along with the families, there are clinicians as well as Engagement Specialists, working as a team to accomplish whatever goals that were established by the family.   These goals do not revolve solely around issues pertaining to substance abuse, but also branch out to whatever problem the family may be dealing with. Whether it be communication issues inside the family, truancy, employment problems,  or the like, the clinicians work step by step with the family to alleviate them.  The treatment models used by the clinicians are MET/CBT, MST, or MDFT.  We also offer a 7 challenges workshop that meets once a week that focuses on substance abuse and individual decision making.

We receive referrals from Probation Officers, DCF workers, teachers, walk ins, etc.  and we meet with the family to do an initial assessment.  Our referrals come from a variety of sources ranging from Probation Officers and DCF, to walk ins and school officials.  The Engagement Specialists conduct an assessment known as the GAIN, which is equivalent to being diagnosed by the DSM IV.

Our program is very successful because from the Engagement Specialists and Clinicians, to the Supervisors that work with them, there is a very high level of dedication, understanding, and commitment…and it shows.
