Urban Youth Empowerment Program sponsored by the National Urban League and federally funded by the Department of Labor. The two main objectives are:
1) To provide educational services to out of school and or adjudicated youth between the ages of 18 to 21 (for 2006-2008).
2) To provide a career preparation for these youth and assist in placing them in meaningful unsubsidized employment.
In order to participate, youth must meet the criteria of one of the following categories: be a high school drop out, be attending an adult education or GED program, be in need of college transition services and/or be an adjudicated youth.
The Urban League of Greater Hartford will offer a variety of services to the eligible youth. These services include, but are not limited to: Assessments, case management and advocacy; educational and occupational training; Community service, internship, and unsubsidized employment; and personal development services.
Community Service
Participants are required to complete 30-50 hours of community service with a faith based/ community based organization. This phase of the program is to assist in providing job-readiness and further their employability skills.
Internship Services
Participants are required to complete 15-20 hours for a minimum of 15 weeks, maximum 20 weeks. This phase is to continue building on employability skills and to provide on the job work experience.
