HARTFORD — Courtenay Jackson enters his second season as head football coach at Hartford Public with the distinction of having led the Owls to the playoffs for the first time in almost two decades.
Before its first-round appearance to Notre Dame-West Haven last year, Hartford Public last reached postseason play in 2004, when it fell to CIAC Class SS champion Woodland in their semifinal matchup.
Since that 13-6 loss, the Owls have gone 88-94 over 19 seasons. Jackson led Hartford Public to its first winning season since 2015 with a 6-5 finish.
Although Hartford Public had more wins than losses for the first time in seven years, the final tally didn’t matter as much to Jackson — who is more focused on the journey and what his athletes can learn from it.
