Health and Wellness
Creating opportunities for every community member to have the resources to experience the wellness in the movement.
Our approach to health and wellness in Hartford is rooted in decades of serving the social determinants that most impact our city—access and quality care, nutrition, and fitness that lead economic opportunity. At the Urban League of Greater Hartford, our programs, partnerships, and policy initiatives, foster statewide support of families seeking a holistic network of services that meet them where they are.
Largest Aeroponic Garden in the City
A five-year partnership with the UConn Health Connecticut Convergence Institute has allowed the Urban League to contribute to the healthy lifestyle of the community, distributing nearly 2,000 free bags of vegetables through the produce generated from the 14 aeroponic garden towers located onsite at our facility at 140 Woodland Street.

Nutrition
Our cooking demonstrations invite residents to learn healthy ways to prepare culturally traditional meals, from substitute ingredients to seasoning, to physiological insights to meal choice and timing.
WELLNESS WEDNESDAY is our annual outdoor event held each April during National Minority Health Month to encourage healthy living with the help of stakeholders who offer care, products, advising, and family resources to 200 of families in our community.
There's Wellness in the Movement

The MOVE!5K and MOVEMENT FESTIVAL
Our annual MOVE!5K and Movement Festival is Hartford's premier outdoor health event in partnership with the Hartford Marathon Foundation bringing racers and walkers of all levels and backgrounds together and celebrating the many ways members of our community are active.
Project Wellness
Project Wellness is the Urban League's dedication to reducing health disparities in our community by addressing the social determinants of health that impact everyday lives. Through evidence-based and culturally relevant strategies, we focus on chronic disease, mental health, food security, public safety, housing stability, and access to quality care. By confronting systemic challenges such as poverty, discrimination, and limited resources, Project Wellness works to close health gaps and advance equity—helping individuals and families build healthier, more secure futures.
